WIND-TUNNEL INVESTIGATION OF EXTERNAL STORE ARRANGEMENTS TO REDUCE WAVE DRAG

Abstract

Results are given for a wind-tunnel investigation to determine the optimum location of a store for minimum drag. The tests were conducted in the 9 1/2-inch tunnel at an average Mach number of 1.98. Results indicate the most favorable location from the point of view of drag is that in which the maximum cross section of the store is slightly forward of the trailing edge shock wave of the main body.
