RESINS BASED ON COMPLEX FORMATIONS WITH ORGANO-TITANATES

Abstract

The study was continued of titanate resins based on the titanate epoxides obtained from the distillation of tetra isopropyl titanate and vinyl cyclohexene dioxide and the modifications obtained by addition of maleic or fumaric acid or other modifying agents. Resins obtained from a resinification of the tetraisopropyl titanate/basic zinc octoate distillation product by redistillation with an A-1100 ethoxysilane and subsequent modification are discussed. Several modifications were pigmented with Al powder, applied to steel panels, and heat-exposed without considerable changes in the tristimulus values of the reflectance. In subsequently continuing the heating for 24 hrs. at 920 F and for 1 hr. at 1000 F there was some change in reflectance, but the appearance remained good and the impact test stood at 28 inches. Other experimental pigmentations were made with rutile titanium dioxide and synthetic red iron oxides. (Author)
