EVALUATION OF AIRCRAFT RADIO CORPORATION DV-14A DYNAVERTER

Abstract

An evaluation was made of the DV-14A Dynaverter to determine its suitability for army use, and its advantage, if any, over the Stan ard A item, Dynamotor DY- !%)/ARN-59. The DV-14A Dynaverter is a static-type power supply designed to be an interchangeable replacement for the dynamotor DY-150 supplied with the AN/ARN-59. It features modern design with the use of transistors, crystal diodes, and printed circuitry, which combine to produce a unit of smaller size and weight than was possible with the earlier design. The DV- 14A supplies the ac and dc voltages required for operation of the AN/ARN-59 receiver, its motordriven loop, and synchro system. The tests indicated that (1) the ARC DV-14A Dynaverter is readily interchangeable with Dynamotor, DY- 150/ARN-59; (2) the DV-14A Dynaverter offers a substantial reduction in weight, size, and input power requirements over Dynamotor, DY/150/ARN-59; (3) performance of the DV-14A Dynaverter is equivalent to that of Dynamotor, DY-150/ARN-59; and (4) the dv-14A Dynaverter should be suitable for Army use upon satisfactory completion of engineering tests.
