EVALUATION OF AIRCRAFT RADIO CORPORATION R-31A GLIDE-SLOPE RECEIVER
Abstract
E FFORTS WERE MADE TO DETERMINE THE SUITABILITY OF THE ARC R-31A Glide-Slope Receiver for army use, and its advantage, if any, over the Standard A item, Receiver Group AN/ARA-54(). The R-31A Glide-Slope Receiver is a lightweight, commercially available set designed to operate over the range 329.3 - 335 mc, with 20 channels spaced every .3 mc. The receiver is of modular construction and employs a double conversion superheterodyne circuit. The circuitry includes the use of t e printed-circuit technique, of transistors an crystal diodes, and subminiature electron tubes. The tests indicated that (1) the performance of the ARC R- !A Glide-Slope Receiver is equivalent to that of Receiver Group AN/ARA-54, and (2) the ARC R-31A GlideSlope Receiver offers a substantial reduction in weight size, and power requirements over the present Standard A Receiver Group an/ara-54.
