RADIATION CHEMISTRY OF PENTANE ISOMERS

Abstract

Three isomeric pentane gases were exposed to Co-60 gamma rays and the hundred-electron-volt yields of the lower molecular-weight products were determined. The isomers studied were normal, iso-, and neopentane. The products formed from each isomer were: H, ethane, acetylene, ethane, propene, propane, butenes, and butanes. Some of the radiolysis products were explained on the basis of free radical reactions and mechanisms. (Author)
