MISSION SUCCESS AND COST ANALYSIS BY FLOW GRAPHS

Abstract

Flow graphs are suited to formulate and analyze mission-success cost, reliability and engineering factors such as thrust, load, mission distance. Flow graphs provide: (1) a realistic model as detailed as needed for a specific purpose; (2) modular building blocks for constructing flow graphs of complex systems; (3) an orderly logical formulation for proceeding from component to subsystem to system; (4) a graphical representation of functional dependence which clearly distinguishes between dependent and independent variables; (5) techniques for alternative formulation by elementary flow graph transformations or by topological equivalence as required in synthesis procedures; (6) a design aid which permits the effects of parameter variations on the system response to be ascertained by inspecttion; (7) a quantitative results obtainable by clearly defined operations; and (8) transfer of a large volume of detailed information.
