STUDY OF LIQUID OXYGEN CONTAMINATION

Abstract

A description is presented of the work performed on filtration of solid carbon dioxide particles from liquid oxygen and on ignition of hydrocarbon films in oxygen atmospheres. An investigation of commercial filter assemblies satisfactory for liquid oxygen service was undertaken. The results of this work indicate that a maximum safe level of hydrocarbon (hexadecane) film contamination is 100 milligrams per square foot.
