PARTICLE PRODUCTION AT LARGE ANGLES BY 10-33 BEV PROTONS INCIDENT ON ALUMINUM AND BERYLLIUM

Abstract

As part of the beam survey program at the Brookhaven alternating gradient synchrotron, a mass analysis was made of the relatively low momentum particles emitted from Al and Be targets when struck by 10-33 Bev protons. The mass of the particles was determined from momentum and velocity, using magnetic deflection and time-offlight technique. Two scintillation counters determined the distance over which the time of flight was measured. This distance was 95 ft. at 13 degrees and 12 ft. at 45 and 90 degrees. A 256 channel pulse height analyzer preceded by a time-to amplitude converter was used to record the time difference between pulses in the 2 scintillation counters. (Author)
