GUIDE TO INTEGRATED SYSTEM DESIGN FOR MAINTAINABILITY

Abstract

This report presents human engineering recommendations and suggestions concerning the design of Air Force weapon systems for ease of maintenance. The report is divided into three main sections: Introduction, which discusses the format of the report: System Decisions for Maintainability, which discusses system design decisions and interactions; and Detail Design for Maintainability, which presents detailed design recommendations. A Decision Structure Chart provides the system designer with a notation of the critical elements of maintainability and a Topic Index Matrix presents the detail designer with an estimate of the general importance of the interactions of specific design elements.
