SOLID STATE HARMONIC LIMITERS

Abstract

The nonlinear characteristics and applications of ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic materials to microwave spurious harmonic limiters were studied. The high power characteristics of ferrimagnetic materials for application to very high-power harmonic suppressors were investigated. Addition-AL THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS WERE PERFORMED ON THE UTILIZATION OF CONVENTIONAL WAVEGUIDE FILTERS IN CONJUNCTION WITH FERRIMAGNETIC MATERIALS TO DERIVE SUITABLE HIGH POWER HARMONIC SUPPRESSORS. Yttrium iron garnet possessed the lowest threshold (onset of nonlinear effects) of all materials studied and could be very useful in the region of higher harmonics. Substituted garnets such as 6% holmium - 94% yttrium iron garnet possess very high thresholds and could be very applicable for the skirts of the passband. (Author)
