LOW-LEVEL WIND PROFILE PREDICTION TECHNIQUES

Abstract

The climatology of mean wind profiles of the first 200 feet of the atmosphere at Army Launch Area Number 1, White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico is discussed. The following parameters are evaluated and discussed: (1) roughness length, (2) friction velocity, and (3) power law values. Profiles are plotted on log-linear graphs to evaluate the accuracy of the log law and on log-log graphs to evaluate the accuracy of the power law. Results of this study are in general agreement with the Hanover, Washington, towersite which has similar topographical characteristics. (Author)
