HIGH STRENGTH GLASS FIBERS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Abstract

Assembly of the spooler machine was completed and it was installed in the environmental control chamber. Controls appeared to work satisfactorily and allowed the variety of motions included in the design. There may be need for adjustments to eliminate some vibration, particularly during rotation of the turntable. Furnace ability to reach and maintain the temperatures necessary for the drawing of E-glass was demonstrated. The tendancy of the glass at drawing procedure; the furnace will have to be modified before extensive drawing of glass fibers can be achieved. (Author)
