METEOR SCATTER COMMUNICATIONS TECHNIQUES

Abstract

Certain characteristics of 73 mc signals reflected from ionized meteor trails were measured. The duration and frequncy of occurrence of these intermittent propagation paths are presented for the hours of minimum meteor activity, based on data obtained from a special test circuit installed between Bozeman, Montana and Palo Alto, California. Parameters are determined for a system consisting of a remote station and a fixed station, with daily bit rate and maximumALLOWABLE ERROR SPECIFIED. A demonstration system was assembled and operated to verify the design and validate its feasiblity. (Author)
