WIND-TUNNEL INVESTIGATION OF THE DAVID TAYLOR MODEL BASIN GROUND-EFFECT MACHINE MODEL 448

Abstract

Tests were conducted on ground effect machines to provide reliable engineering information relevant to the feasibility and desirability of ground effect machines for naval applications. Results of performance, stability and control tests on David Taylor Model Basin GEM Model 448 are presented. All results exhibit highly systematic trends in qualitative agreement with theoretical expectations. Performance data are in quantitative agreement with theory, when adequate account is taken of model internal-flow and parasite-drag characteristics. (Author)
