MOLYBDENUM STRUCTURAL COMPONENT PROGRAM

Abstract

Progress is reported on the Mo structural components. Coating vendors were interviewed to determine the most economical design and assembly procedure for the rudder from a coating standpoint. Compatibility studies of Mo-coated and Nb-coated parts were completed. Pre-production Mo material which could be used for preliminary evaluation was selected for rolling for the detail fabrication evaluation. The rudder fittings cannot be made as Mo or Nb forgings under Westinghouse or Crucible Steels study program. The blanking of Mo parts by Chem-Milling was investigated. (Author)
