DESIGN AIMS FOR STABILITY AND CONTROL OF PILOTED AIRCRAFT
Abstract
The present situation on stability and control requirements for military aircraft is reviewed as seen by an evaluation authority endeavouring to ensure that the user's needs are met. It is shown that the approach to these requirements has to be modified in many areas to take account of basic changes in aircraft design, performance, pilot guidance and operating conditions. Requirements in these areas are tending to become statements of principle, and the designer has to decide on the stability and control levels necessary to achieve flying safety and operational adequacy. For this he is often in need of more precise statements of over-all accuracy requirements and of manoeuvres required in operational and other types of flying. (Author)
