INVESTIGATIONS OF THE OPTICAL DETECTION OF HYPERFINE RESONANCES IN ALKALI VAPORS

Abstract

Some digital computer solutions (IBM 650) of the equations of optical pumping for the time development of populations under optical pumping following a 180 degree pulse were obtained. Equilibrium populations as a function of relaxation in the excited state were obtained which show the manner in which ground state populations cross each other and change their relative values. Preliminary numerical calculations were carried out for optical pumping in atomic hydrogen. (Author)
