IMPACT OF A CANTILEVER BEAM WITH STRAIN RATE SENSITIVITY

Abstract

A theoretical investigation is presented of the plastic deformation of a cantilever beam with an attached tip mass, subjected to a rapid transverse velocity change at the base. The strain rate dependence of the yield stress, and the geometry changes, are considered. Results are compared with those of experiment, and show good agreement. (Author)
