ELECTRON BEAM TECHNIQUE FOR MEASURING THE THERMO-PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS

Abstract

The suitability of electron bombardment for measuring the thermophysical properties of materials was established. A solution applicable to the case of a radiating cylindrical sample is presented; the technique offers a valuable tool for measuring these properties within described limits. Values of thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, density/specific heat, and total normal emissivity were determined for graphite and Al2O3 (polycrystalline). Recommendations on instrumentation are made for the further development of this technique. (Author)
