HIGH-TEMPERATURE, VAPOR-FILLED THERMIONIC CONVERTER

Abstract

The results are described of the design, fabrication, and initial test portions of the program on high-temperature, vapor-filled thermionic converters. Problems associated with the design and operation of a thermionic converter employing a uranium carbide-zirconium carbide emitter and a high-temperature collector were investigated. The object was to advance the development of a thermionic converter exhibiting high power density, improved efficiency, and long life for application with a high-temperature nuclear reactor for space-flight electric power generation.
