THE EFFECT OF APPROXIMATION ERRORS IN A GENERAL CLASS OF MATCHED FILTER DETECTORS

Abstract

The deterioration in signal-to-noise ratio at the output of a matched filter detector caused by approximation errors is expressed in terms of the normalized integrated squared difference between the matched and approximating impulse responses. The result is extended to a more general class of quadratic processors for detection of random signals in noise. It is also applied to filters used for signal arrival time estimation. (Author)
