CONTAINER FAILURE DETECTION SYSTEM

Abstract

Results of an initial feasibility study defining he in-press inspection of the billet containers of the Air Force Heavy Program, indicate that an inspection system is practicable. A system is reco end d consis ing of a co bi ation of magnetic and ultrasonic techniques. The billet containers associated wi h the various presses in the Air Force Program are catagorized by di ensions, element thickness, construction, and acce sibility. The past histories of container f ilures is examined in terms of freque cy, location and cau e. Application of this information to the results of a literature search and study of nondestructive test technique enables defi i ion of the pplicable inspectio techniqu s and recommendation of a system capable of automated application.
