DESIGN MANUAL FOR JOINING OF GLASS REINFORCED STRUCTURAL PLASTICS

Abstract

Glass reinforced plastic materials are currently being used for construction of: boat hulls; submarine fairwaters, masts and superstructures; minesweeping equipment; propeller shaft fairwaters and rope guards; as well as scores of other applications. The success of such applications is greatly dependent upon proper design of structural connections. This manual provides information and guidance on fastening techniques for reinforced plastic laminates. It is intended for the information and guidance of naval architects and marine engineers who design reinforced plastic structures for naval application. Areas discussed include: adhesives, screws, bolts, rivets, special fasteners, properties of structural laminates, theory and design. (Author)
