DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A LIQUID METAL CELL

Abstract

insulation, Ceramic materials, Oxides, Battery separators. Electrochemical, physical, and chemical characteristics of K, Hg, and K-Hg amalgams lend themselves to the successful operation of a liquid metal cell for space power. Construction of single liquid metal cells and a 3-cell unit is complete and testing is in progress. Preliminary design work to show that the cells can be combined into a system which will function as a battery is nearly complete. Photographs and detailed drawings of the units used for the cell, instrumentation, feed system, etc, are shown.
