A THEOREM ON ERROR ESTIMATION FOR FINITE DIFFERENCE ANALOGUES OF THE DIRICHLET PROBLEM FOR ELLIPTIC EQUATIONS

Abstract

A general theorem on error estimation is stated which can be used as a guide in the formulation of finite difference analogues of the Dirichlet problem for elliptic equations. As examples of application of this theorem two finite difference analogues are presented and the corresponding discretization errors are shown to be O(h2) and O(h4) respectively. Here h is the mesh size. (Author)
