SYNTHESIS OF CASTABLE ELASTOMERS FOR NEUTRON SHIELDING

Abstract

Boron-containing polymers were synthesized as candidates for a castable neutron shielding material. Alkyldecaborane polymers were the most promising. Polyesters of boric acid or alkylboronic acid, boron terminated polydienes, or boronated liquid polybutadiene had poor hydrolytic or oxidative stability, or poor curing characteristics. (Author)
