WORD ANALYZER

Abstract

The requirement of a natural language processing capability which will provide an effective and rapid translation function has led to the development of the Sentence Analyzer. Improved capability of mechanical translation is provided through linguistic analysis of source-language sentences. The Sentence Analysis process is based on a multiple pass operation wherein elements of the source language are subjected to lexical recognition in a recursive process. Automatic determination of syntactic structure and recognition of semantic features render a significantly improved translation. A discussion of the linguistic research and processor development is presented. (Author)
