ANALYTICAL AND PHYSICAL STUDIES OF CHEMICAL AGENTS AND RELATED COMPOUNDS
Abstract
Research was conducted on the following: characterization of solids formed during the first step of the esterification of nonomethyl phosphorus dichloride; analysis of the debutaneized step 1 product and of pyrone and its precursors; the Dieckmann condensation of a piperidine diester; and chemical analysis of process water. Materials insoluble in the C2H6-C4H10 solvent and formed in the step 1 pilot-plant process were identified as NH4C1, NaCl, NaOH, and P. Pyrone was synthesized from 2-(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-3-methyl octane and ethyl-5-methylcyclohexanone-2-carboxylate. The liquid-liquid partition coefficients for pyrone and ethyl-5-methylcyclohexanone-2-carboxylate were determined in nitromethane and aliphatic hydrocarbons. The Dieckmann Cyclization of a piperidine diester was analyzed by IR, gas chromatography, x-ray diffraction, and wet chemical methods. The distillate contained mixtures of xylenes, isopropanol, ethylene and propylene.
