AFT-END CLOSURE STUDY FOR POLARIS A-3 ROCKET MOTOR CASE

Abstract

The following progre was made on this research: (a) A study of stress p tern for each d ign of port reinforcement obtained from strain gages during the sub-scale chamber tests; (b) design of port reinforcement which would satisfy the stress pattern obtained from sub-scale tests; (c) design hape of f cluster fitting with adequate bonding area that would equalize stresses of glass fibers in the dome when the motor case is pressurized; (d) continuation of f brication and test of sub- c le chambers to evaluate port reinforcement designs; 5 motor cases were fabricated and tested; (e) fabrication and testing of 2 full-scale motor cases to determi e th s rength level of nonported chambers for comparison with motor cases with reinforc ports; and (f) DESIGN OF FULL-SCALE MOTOR CASE WITH PORT OPENINGS INCORPORATING THE BEST PORT REI FORCEMENT DESIGN, METHOD OF BONDING GLASS FIBERS TO THE AFT CLUSTER FITTING, AND CONFIGUR TION OF TH AFT CLUS ER FITTING DEVELOPED IN Item c.
