STRESS PROPAGATION IN NON-LINEAR VISCOELASTIC MATERIALS

Abstract

A theory for the propag tion of plane stres w ves in strain-rate se sitive materials developed by Malvern (Quart. Appl. Math. 8, Jan 1 51 and J. Appl. Mechanics 18:203, 1951) is modified to include finite amplitude trains. An approximate solution is derived for the infinitesimal strain theory for a constant stress boundary co dition. A general development of ynamic stress- train la from b ic as umptions is presented. General techniques are outli ed for obtaining numerical solutions utilizing high speed digital computers.
