NITROGEN-CONTAINING ORGANOMETALLICS OF MOLYBDENUM AND TUNGSTEN

Abstract

This research falls into 2 categories: that concerned with the preparation and characterisation of suitable starting materials, and that dealing with the reactions of these materials with typical organometallic compounds. Mo compounds in the ter-, quadri-, and quinquevalent states, and quadrivalent W compounds were prepared. In the tervalent state, Mo formed compounds of the type MoX3,3L, with X = Cl and Br, and L = EtNH2, PrNH2 and Py. Reaction of MoBr3 with ethylene diamine gave the solid brown (Moen3)Br3. MoBr(NH2)2 was prepared by the reaction of MoBr3 with liquid NH3. Quadrivalent Mo and W compounds of the type MX4,2L were characterised. The coupling experiments carried out so far have been aimed at producing compounds containing either an M-C or M-P bond. In the M-C experiments, tervalent and quinquevalent Mo compounds were reacted with Li phenyl, Na cyclopentadienide, and n-propyl magnesium bromide. (Author)
