DEVELOPMENT OF A TWO-CONDUCTOR SHIELDED CABLE CONNECTOR FOR USE IN MISSILE FIRING CIRCUITS

Abstract

Research continued on the development of a twoconductor shielded cable connector suitable for use in missile firing circuits. Design principles to be developed will be used by the Navy in a new family of electrical connectors. These connectors will exhibit highly effective shielding characteristics to electromagnetic radiation and thereby will reduce the hazards of such radiation to electrically detonated ordnance. Efforts concern the following subjects: construction of connector test sample for use in evaluation of connector shielding effectiveness; design study of various shielding contact configuration and methods for joining same to the connector shell; a shielding effectiveness test program; and construction of special test equipment to facil tate shielding effectiveness testing.
