CONTROLLED FREEZING OF WATER

Abstract

Direct observation of the solid-liquid interface during the freezing of aqueous solutions reveals many interesting morphological details related to the different modes of solidification. The development of the cellular interface morphology has been studied in some detail and quantitative estimates of both the degree of segregation to cell boundaries and the volume fraction of this segregate have been made.
