TRANSIENT VIBRATIONS OF A BEAM WITH NONLINEAR MATERIAL PROPERTIES

Abstract

Free vibrations of a simply supported beam with nonlinear viscoelastic material properties and under symmetrical initial conditions are studied. The method of analysis is based on the Method of Averaging for discrete systems. The solution obtained is asymptotically valid for small nonlinear terms. If the material properties are nonlinear and of the type that produce static hysteresis (metallic materials) then the probable nature of the solution is indicated. (A UTHOR)
