STUDY OF ADSORPTION RATE IN VACUUM CRYOSORPTION

Abstract

An experimental investigation of vacuum pumping of gaseous nitrogen by low temperature adsorption was carried out in the 1/10,000 to 1/1000 torr region with charcoal cooled to near liquid nitrogen temperature. An interrupted flow technique was employed, and the resulting data were graphically analyzed to yield information pertaining to the basic adsorption mechanism. The adsorption isotherm was found to obey Henry's law,AND THE VOLUMETRIC PUMPING SPEED AT CHAMBER PRESSURE WAS FOUND TO BE A CONSTANT. (Author)
