PARALLEL COMPUTING WITH VERTICAL DATA

Abstract

A novel technique called Vertical Data Processing (VDP) for the manipulation of data in digital computers is presented. Multiple data are processed simultaneously, one bit at a time, using Boolean operations. Many classes of problems appear adaptable to this technique. A hypothetical VDP computer which embodies both VDP and conventional techniques is proposed and its advantages are discussed. (Author)
