TWO-IMPULSE TRANSFER VERSUS ONE-IMPULSE TRANSFER-ANALYTIC THEORY

Abstract

A mathematical proof is presented that if two coplanar elliptical orbits with a common focus intersect for some orientations, the optimum one-impulse transfer between the two orbits is still inferior to the two-impulse Hohmann transfer. This result was conjectured by Ting (ARS Journ; Vol. 30:1013-1018, 1960), but the present paper presents the first mathematical proof. (Author)
