DEVELOPMENT OF MANUFACTURING PROCESS FOR HIGH PURITY ELECTRONIC CERAMICS

Abstract

The purpose of this project is to develop new or improved manufacturing methods for large scale production of ferroelectric or piezoelectric ceramic materials such as titanates, zirconates, niobates, and tantalates. A major requirement is high purity (99.95%). The accomplishments include the installation of pilot plant equipment, initial start-up procedures and chemicals for reaction, chemical analysis and x-ray techniques, and the investigation of a compatible barium zirconate technique. The synthesis of BaTiO3 in the pilot plant will be accomplished by the addition of triethanolamine titanate to a potassium hydroxide/barium chloride solution. Chelated esters of zirconium compounds are under investigation. (Author)
