ENGINEERING SERVICES TO STORE MATERIALS INFORMATION DATA ON MAGNETIC MEMORY TAPES

Abstract

Research conducted on a mechanized data storage and retrieval system is summarized. Scientific information chosen for storage, presently in the form of tables and graphs in MIL-HDBK-5, has been assembled into a large array of numbers. Materials and properties major groups form the ordinate and abscissa of a two-dimensional classification system. One system classifies knowledge of materials; the other classifies properties. The digital computer flow charts required for programming are given. All research connected with this project is included, with the exception of the magnetic tape reel containing the actual data.
