APPLIED RESEARCH ON TSEM IMAGE AMPLIFICATION CAMERA TUBE

Abstract

A summary of work performed on transmissive secondary emission (TSE) films and their applications as pre-scanning beam amplifiers in camera tubes for low light level performance is presented. The work performed involves a feasibility study of intensifier-orthicon devices employing TSE amplification. In general, two approaches were pursued. One is an intensifierorthicon which utilizes TSE films as pre-scanning beam dynodes in the image section in combination with a thin film storage target. The other approach is the use of a high gain, low density film as a TSE-EBIC (tansmission secondary emission-electron bombardment induced conductivity) storage target in an orthicon structure.
