STATE-OF-THE-ART SURVEY OF SUPERCONDUCTIVITY AND SUPERCONDUCTING ELECTROMAGNETS

Abstract

Some important characteristics and applications of superconducting materials have been compiled from a survey of existing information on the subject of superconductivity. The basic properties of superconductors are described and a brief account of the Bardeen-Cooper-Shrieffer theory is given. The previously published data on the superconducting compound Nb3Sn (niobium-tin) is reviewed, and superconducting solenoids utilizing this material are discussed. (Author)
