ABSORPTION SPECTRUM OF YTTERBIUM IN SINGLE CRYSTAL OF CALCIUM FLUORIDE

Abstract

High resolution spectrum of Yb(3+) in the cubic field of CaF2 is reported. The striking features of the spectrum are two strong sharp lines at 10384.759/cm and 10377.039/cm at 4.2 K. The position of the two lines and their separation was measured as a function of the temperature. The line shape is Lorentzian. The possible position of the various Stark levels of the ground state is discussed. (Author)
