OPTIMUM FILAMENT DIAMETER

Abstract

Static fatigue tests were completed on 0.005-in.diam. E-glass fibers coated with A-1100 coupling agent and Epon 828 resin. Strength testing was completed on resin-coated E-glas fibers immersed in sea water for 27 days. Statistical analysis of all immersion data is reported. Five-fiber coated strand has been produced at fiber diame ers from 0.0004 to 0.005 in. for NOL ring winding. Theoretical analyses to determine the effects of diameter of fiber on the buckling load of a fiber reinforced composite column under axial compressive load and the effect of diameter of fibers on bending stress and pretension in a filament wound circular cylindrical shell were complet d.
