DYNAMIC BUCKLING OF COLUMNS

Abstract

Experimental results of dynamic buckling tests of columns in which plastic deformation was expected to occur are given. The tests were performed in the same range of the dynamic similarity number as those at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn; however the similarity numbers were obtained with shorter columns and higher loading velocities to accomodate shorter columns and to provide more rigidity and reliability. As a CONSEQUENCE ANY COMPONENTS OF THE MECHANICAL PART AND NEARLY THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL PART OF THE MACHINE HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED AND NEW METHODS IN RECORDING WERE USED.
