CHEMISTRY AND DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF FLUOALUMINATES. II. DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES

Abstract

A systematic preliminary evaluation was made of the dielectric properties of tetrafluoaluminates, (KAlF4-RbAlF4 plus a small amount of KBF4), a new system of dielectric materials. Electric strength, which was comparable to that of muscovite mica, was apparently a function not of composition but of thickness of the test specimen. The loss angle varied with composition, with some fluoaluminates close to natural mica with respect to this property. The dielectric constant varied from 6 to 9. Electrical properties were not significantly affected by exposure of fluoaluminates to high humidity conditions. The effects of irradiation and of elevated temperature on the electrical properties were also briefly explored. (Author)
