DEVELOPMENT OF A HIGH-TEMPERATURE, NUCLEAR-RADIATION-RESISTANT PNEUMATIC POWER SYSTEM FOR FLIGHT VEHICLES

Abstract

The development of a high-temperature, nuclearradiation-resistant pneumatic power system for flight vehicles continued. The design, development and testing of a typical pneumatic ystem capable of operating under wide temperature excursions while in the presence of nuclear radiation continued. A ram air tur ine-driven compressor was selected as the most feasible means of supplying the pneumatic power source. The compressor and a number of o her components including a rotary actuator, servo control valve, pressure regulator, relief valve, accumulator, filter, and a check valve, are under development. These components will be tested as parts of a pneumatic system, under both high temperature and nuclear radiation environments. (Author)
