Abstract

Identifer : Bombers A4D.A service suitability evaluation was made of 12 modifications to a Douglas D-704 Air Refueling Store. The AR store was carried on A4D-2/2N tankers for 45 flights for 80 flight hr. Various receiver airplanes were used. The increased hose tension, modified reel-in snubbing valve, automatic fuel pump shut-off switch, modified hose reel fuel connector fitting, replaced fuel flow regulator, deletion of the pressure actuated shut-off valve and installation of high level float switch were satisfactory for service use. After local modification the drogue lighting system and hose illumination light were satisfactory. The extendible dump valve, modified hose, and modified hose cutter knife were unsatisfactory for service use. (Author)
