ADAPTATION OF TUNNEL DIODE STATIC INVERTER TO HIGHER INPUT VOLTAGES

Abstract

The basic tunnel diode static inverter employing a single tunnel diode in each loop operates at approximately 0.25 volt dc input and is applicable with hermoelectric and solar cell power supplies. Two or more tunnel diodes in series in each loop have been used with an external triggering circuit to accept higher input voltages. This development makes the tunnel diode static inverter compatible with thermionic and fuel cell generators, whose optimum output voltage is apparently in the range of 0.75 to 1 volt, and is the only practical method at the present time of steppioltage dc power sources.
