THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUXILIARY ELECTRODE THERMIONIC CONVERTER

Abstract

The feasibility and development program for the three-electrode thermionic converter was continued. Evaluations of several new geometries and processes were made with particular emphasis on the improvement of cesium purity. This last investigation produced impressive results in aising the power density and efficiency of the conveters and achieving a more uniform prouct with which to evaluate changes in design. The over-all design of the six-Volt Generator was determined. This design is being translated into component prints and assemblies and ordes have been placed for the fabrication of the initial parts. Material investigations were performed at the three temperatures of interest. The program requires a 1000-hour test. This imitation resulted in a few evaluations of material compatibility with cesium. However, more samples are presently under test and the analyses will be reported following the completion of the tests. (Author)
