Tests were conducted (1) to determine if the infantry, self-propelled, 4.2-inch, XM106 mortar, is suitable for Army use under arctic winter conditions, and (2) to determine the effect of the increased weight of the mortar on the mobility of the vehicle in arctic terrain. It was concluded that: (a) the mortar should be su table for such Army use when the deficiencies are corrected, and (b) the increased weight of the mortar had no significant effect on the mobility of the vehicle in arctic terrain.
